Why is Machine Guarding training important?
According to OSHA, there are a number of incidents that occur each year. Here is a look at injuries to workers who operate and/or maintain machinery.
A total of 18,000 accident reports show the following injuries:
- Amputations
- Lacerations
- Crushing injuries, and
- Abrasions
More than 800 of these reports listed accidents which led to death. These injuries and deaths occur when machine guards fail or are bypassed, pulling a body part or, in some cases, the entire worker into the machine. Amputations, lacerations, crush injuries and abrasions often result in a prolonged period of pain and suffering and the recovery time is very long.
